6 Places in Vancouver to Shop for Spring Gardens

By AK Timber in Blog, Planting

Spring gardens are part of what makes us love this season so much. While it doesn’t quite look or feel like spring yet, you can definitely feel that it is in the air. When it comes to planning and plotting your spring garden, there are a lot of different places that you can look at in the Vancouver area. However, at AK Timber Services, we can’t just go and recommend anywhere.

Instead, we want to recommend places that are going to give you the best possible result. After all, a more beautiful Vancouver is like free publicity for us. Some of these sources only serve landscapers or retail developments who buy in bulk, so beware. So check out these nurseries, greenhouses, and garden centers:

Van Veen Nursery is another great wholesaler that you should consider. However, they are an incredibly specific

nursery that deals in only a few types of plants. Let’s allow them to spell it out: “All of us here we are committed to producing quality rhododendron liners and rooted cuttings for the hobby gardener as well as the wholesale grower. We are the oldest niche propagation nursery for rhododendrons in the country, and we boast a wide array of very rare species and hybrids.”

While they have a physical location, they are also available for online purchases, making it easier for you to go about larger orders.

2. Hidden Gardens Nursery

Trompenburg, Shishigashira, Sumanigashi, Bloodgood, Red Pygmy, Fireglow, and Red Seedling are just a few of the Japanese maples they have in stock at Hidden Garden Nursery – look on their website to see the different options that you have.

As an added bonus, when you clean up your yard this year, you can take your debris to Hidden Gardens Nursery so that it can be recycled.

3. Sunmark Seeds

Means Nursery is another local favorite for the Vancouver, WA area. If you are looking for fruit trees or fruit shrubs, this is the place to look – especially for their raspberry bushes, which are famous around this area. This nursery is known for trying to keep everything natural and allowing plants to just do their business, making them a greener option.

Means Nursery also sells a bunch of different options for potting soil, gardening tools, and other yard necessities.

Means Nursery also has some of the most knowledgeable staff members of any nursery in the area – and not only that, they are willing to help you with your selections. Make sure to check out their website because they offer up a bunch of specials.

5. Panzer Nursery

Azaleas are another personal favorite for us, just because they are absolutely gorgeous. And the flowers at Panzer

Nursery are some of the most beautiful around. According to them, “We combine the natural gifts of the Pacific Northwest growing region with our many years of experience and the most technologically advanced greenhouses and storage facilities to ensure you always receive healthy, vibrant plants.”

Now, be careful because azaleas are notoriously difficult shrubs to prune and take care of – but more on that later!

6. Skyline Nursery

If you consider someone an expert after they have a considerable amount of experience growing something, then people who work at Skyline Nursery are some of the most forefront in experts. They are a wholesaler, and they have some of the biggest locations on the west coast. They have 60 years of experience working with flowers, so they do know what makes something a good flower, a bad tree, or something that you can really be proud of.

They have nurseries located in Oxnard, Camarillo and Nipomo.  They say that they have “chosen these locations for their cool coastal breezes and moderate temperatures which provide some of the best flower growing conditions in America.” With thought like that, why wouldn’t they know what they are doing?
